World Health Organization chief calls for unity in response to Trump


The director general of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus demanded governments not politicise the COVID-19 pandemic in response to US President Donald Trump's comments about cutting funding from the international body.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo supported the decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization, claiming that they have been "incompetent" and criticizing their handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

President Donald Trump said Friday that the United States is "terminating" its relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO) over its response to the novel coronavirus.

Trump said at a news conference at the White House that his administration would redirect funds promised to the WHO to other organizations responsible for global health.
