USNS Comfort Prepares For Deployment To NYC

Description:

Naval ship, the USNS Comfort, is expected to depart from Virginia for New York City where it will serve as a hospital for non-COVID-19 patients so other area hospitals can focus their attention on the coronavirus. Courtney Kube reports. Aired on 3/26/2020.

Rachel Maddow reports that according to a source familiar with the matter, as of Wednesday night the Javitz Center had fewer than ten patients and the USNS Comfort had fewer than five patients even as New York City hospitals struggle to keep up with the volume of COVID-19 patients. Aired on 4/1/20.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says that the USNS Comfort will now be able to treat COVID-19 patients. Aired on 4/6/2020.
In New York City, there's a sign of progress in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic that has rocked the city for months. The USNS Comfort, the hospital ship that was dispatched to accommodate overflow COVID-19 patients from hospitals, set sail and headed back to Virginia. Thankfully, social distancing measures kept many at home and out of harm's way, and the ship only had to treat 182 patients out of its 1000 bed capacity, well below the anticipated need.
A Navy hospital ship has arrived in New York City to help relieve the coronavirus crisis gripping the city's hospitals. Mayor Bill de Blasio said the arrival of the USNS Comfort will "save the lives of New Yorkers in our hour of need." (March 30)
