U.S. President Donald Trump said during a coronavirus task force briefing at the White House in Washington, Sunday, March 29, that he will extend the voluntary national shutdown for a month as coronavirus cases in the country reach over 141,000 with 2,468 deaths.
President Donald Trump said Friday that White House trade adviser Peter Navarro would become the national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government.

Trump made the announcement at an afternoon press conference at the White House, saying he gave Navarro the new authorities when he signed an executive order earlier that day.

"My order establishes that Peter will serve as national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government," Trump told reporters.

Trump described Navarro as "a very trusted person from the White House" and called the new job a "very important position."

The news came after Trump used the Defense Production Act to compel General Motors to produce ventilators to help combat the coronavirus, which has sickened more than 100,000 people in the United States.
