Trump to withdraw US from Open Skies arms control treaty


The United States has announced that it would pull out of the Open Skies treaty which allows member countries to conduct unarmed surveillance flights over 35 participating states.
President Donald Trump said he was withdrawing the US from the treaty as Russia had repeatedly violated its terms.
He said he intended to renegotiate - or get a new deal with Russia - and was interested in getting China on board.

President Trump announced that the U.Sᐳ would be pulling out of the Open Skies arms control treaty with Russia because they "didn't adhere" to the agreement. Aired on 5/21/2020.
During a press conference, Mayor Bill de Blasio calls on President Trump to help his hometown of New York "back on our feet" with another stimulus package.
The United States and China have pledged to work closely together to fight the pandemic.
Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump held a phone call and agreed to boost cooperation despite a continuing trade war.
That is after China announced it is banning foreign arrivals to block imported cases.
Al Jazeera's Divya Gopalan reports.
As some states reopen, the White House wants Trump to pivot away from coronavirus health issues and instead focus on the economy.
