Trump: Protesters Who Tear Down Monuments Face 'Long-Term Jail Sentences'

Description:

President Trump told reporters that those who try to tear down monuments could face "long-term jail sentences" and claimed they "don't love our country." The president also said that he would be announcing an executive order on protecting monuments from protesters. Aired on 6/23/2020.

U.S. President Donald Trump says those caught destroying monuments in the U.S. could face long-term jail sentences. His comments come as his administration plans to extend a ban on green cards issued outside the United States until the end of the year and to freeze many temporary work visas.

Protesters have put up fences around a portion of Lafayette Square, the park across the street from the White House in Washington, DC, and are attempting to tear down a statue at the center of the park of President Andrew Jackson. Police are on the scene in riot gear and are confronting the protesters.
