These before and after photos show the extent of the damage at one of Paris' most recognizable landmarks.

Hundreds of firefighters fought to save one of the world's landmark buildings in Paris after a massive fire engulfed the centuries-old Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday evening.
French President Emmanuel Macron has promised to rebuild the symbol of Paris and French culture.
It's not yet known how the fire started.

CGTN's France Kuo has the latest on the devastating fire that gutted the famous landmark Notre-Dame cathedral.
This morning, two-thirds of the 12th-century Cathedral is burnt beyond recognition.

The iconic wooden spire has collapsed. The wooden roof has been destroyed.

But some of the priceless artwork inside has been saved and authorities say the structure itself - including the famous bell towers - has largely been preserved.

And as firefighters continue to work inside, French President Emmanuel Macron has already vowed to rebuild.
