Quarantined Passengers Finally Allowed To Leave Coronavirus Cruise Ship

Description:

Passengers aboard the Holland America cruise ship were finally allowed to dock in Cambodia after two weeks at sea, while a ship in Japan is still locked down. Scientists are now racing to develop a vaccine to combat the highly infectious virus.

Princess Cruises says Japan is proceeding with a "phased" process allowing passengers aboard the quarantined Diamond Princesswho have tested negative for the novel coronavirus to leave the cruise ship and complete their quarantine on land. Priority would be given to the elderly and those in windowless interior cabins.
Passengers from a cruise ship turned away by four countries because of coronavirus fears have finally been allowed off in Cambodia.

The ship had been at sea for two weeks, and the 2,000 passengers and crew had been tested to see if they were carrying the virus when it arrived on Wednesday.

Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports from Sihanoukville where the ship arrived.

He says the Cambodian government is prepared to let passengers into the country, even if they were found to be infected with the virus.
Those stuck on the Grand Princess cruise ship will be docked tomorrow going to the hospital or military bases for mandatory 14 day quarantine.
Dr. Kate Bunyan, a former cruise ship doctor, says the notion that cruise ships are a breeding ground for bugs and viruses such as COVID-19 is incorrect. People are no more likely to get sick on a cruise ship than at a hospital or a school.
