N.J. Gov. Murphy Calls For 'Huge' Stimulus From Federal Government

Description:

New Jersey, the state with the second highest amount of COVID-19 cases in the nation, says the local economy is hurting and "we need the federal government right now, in a big way, to come in with direct cash assistance." Aired on 5/8/2020.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz called for the entirety of the state's National Guard to be mobilized for the first time in its history to assist with the protests over George Floyd's death.
New Jersey Gov. Murphy called Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., "utterly irresponsible" for saying that states should declare bankruptcy instead of waiting for a federal bailout. Murphy said the coronavirus pandemic "is no time for bankruptcy," and McConnell is "dead wrong."
During a press conference, New Jersey Gov. Murphy breaks down his state's "responsible economic restart." New Jersey will continue social distancing measures, like requirements for face masks and work-from-home orders in some areas.
A mom whose husband is in the hospital pleads for better access to testing. A New Jersey mayor asks if the military could send nurses and respiratory therapists. And doctors are still begging for personal protective equipment. A day after the White House projected 240,000 coronavirus deaths as a best-case scenario, is the federal government moving any faster?
