Kenya's Pastoralists Bear the Biggest Brunt of Disasters


Kenya introduced the Hunger Safety Net Program in 2012 to cushion affected people through a direct cash transfer to help with recovery, but that help has been slow going. And the government says it has limited resources to extend the service to all in need. VOA, David Lomuria reports from Kenya.

What's the biggest threat to fair and safe elections? The Hill/HarrisX daily poll takes a look. This survey was conducted online within the United States from February 14-15, 2020 among 1,001 registered voters by HarrisX. The sampling margin of error of this poll is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The results reflect a nationally representative sample of registered voters. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, income, political party, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population.
During a Thursday press conference at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., spokesman Gerry Rice spoke with reporters about the coronavirus outbreak in China and its possible economic impact there. While he said tourism and commerce are being negatively affected by the outbreak, especially in Hubei Province, it is too soon to quantify the longer term economic impact on the country. Rice said the full extent of the impact will depend on how long it takes to control and eradicate the virus.
