Italy thrown into political crisis as Renzi sinks government


#Italy's former premier Matteo #Renzi pulled his small party out of government on Wednesday, stripping the ruling coalition of its parliamentary majority and triggering political #chaos even as the nation battles a resurgent Covid-19. FRANCE 24's Seema Gupta tells us more on Renzi's motivations.

On Wednesday #Renzi pulled his tiny centrist party #Italia Viva from the coalition, unseating Prime Minister Giuseppe #Conte's government and throwing Italy into political chaos in the midst of a resurgent coronavirus emergency.
Italy is facing a political crisis at a critical moment in its fight against coronavirus.
Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is scrambling to find enough allies to survive confidence votes.
Meanwhile, lockdown rules are being extended - meaning more misery for businesses sinking in debt.

Both the Dutch and Italian governments began to fray over separate scandals and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo realised he may not be so welcome in Europe any more.
