While some countries are reporting more and more new cases every day, others are adapting to a "new normal." Data for the global picture shows that the pandemic is far from over.
n Europe, several countries are scrambling to contain the spread of new coronavirus infections. On Thursday, France has hit a new record of16,000 confirmed cases in 24 hours. The French health minsitry also said the number of patients in intensive care has jumped to the highest level since June. This week the French government has announced tougher restrictions in some of its largest cities, including the early or total closure of bars and restaurants, sparking outcry among workers.

The European Union adopted on Tuesday a "traffic light" system to guide member states whether to require #Covid-19 testing or quarantines for non-essential EU travellers such as tourists. The recommendation aims to end a confusing patchwork of restrictions and to restore free movement. With cases spiking across #Europe, only a few areas would currently qualify for the lowest-risk "green" band allowing unrestricted travel. They include most of eastern Germany, parts of the Nordic and Baltic countries, some areas of Bulgaria and Greece. FRANCE 24's Nick Spicer tells us more about the situation in Germany.
