Flash Floods Ravage Switzerland Alps After Heavy Rain
Heavy rain triggered mudslides and flash flooding in the Swiss Alps, Monday, August 12 and over the previous weekend. Video posted online shows a wave of water, mud and debris rushing down the Losentze River near the village of Chamoson.
A man and a 6-year-old girl have been missing since Sunday after their car was swept away in a flash flood. More than 70 rescuers searched for them overnight. Police said Monday they have little hope of finding the two alive.
At least 18 people have died and more than 70 injured, after heavy rains caused severe flooding across Iran.
The flood waters blocked roads and triggered landslides.
Rescue agencies and aid workers have been helping the displaced, while emergency services have warned of more heavy rain to come. This used to be a village with farmland and crops. Now it's more like a lake after heavy rains and severe flooding and even some dam breaks.The only way in and out of the village is by boat. NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins reports on the effects of a torrential thunderstorm that hit the Washington, D.C. area. More than a million people have been displaced in northeast India after days of torrential rain.
Flash floods in the region have killed 10 people while farmlands and residential areas have been submerged after rivers burst their banks.
It's the monsoon season and this year's rainfall has been especially heavy.
And weather forecasts are predicting more rain.
