Europe battling second wave of COVID-19 as countries tighten restrictions l ABC News


Hospitals in Italy are overwhelmed as new lockdowns are put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Belgian doctors are describing their situation as "a war zone" as Europe faces a surge in COVID-19 cases with countries such as France instituting new lockdowns to combat the spread.
"It's every single Victorian that's defeated the second wave. It's not the government or people who work for the government."

In Australia, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has praised Victorians for defeating the second wave of COVID-19.
After a relatively calm summer, ABC News' Ian Pannell reports on most of Europe dealing with a COVID-19 resurgence which has prompted schools and businesses to shut down again.
The European Union's disease control agency has joined frantic health workers to sound the alarm over a coronavirus surge across the continent, as the World Health Organization warned of an "exponential" rise in infections.
