Doctors Debunk Herd Immunity Reportedly Favored By White House

Description:

Donald Trump's White House reportedly backs herd immunity as a plan to battle the Covid-19 pandemic. Herd immunity as a response to the U.S. coronavirus outbreak--and the Great Barrington Project which promotes it--are decried by doctors in conversation with Tiffany Cross.

Dr. Robert Wachter, chair and professor at the UCSF Department of Medicine, explains to Rachel Maddow that people with Covid-19 are infectious a day or two before they show symptoms, so according to the White House timeline that puts Mike Pence at an event with Donald Trump two days before Trump's symptoms, Pence should be quarantining to guard against exposing others. Rachel Maddow looks at what appears to be a deliberately poor job the Trump administration has done containing the coronavirus, the advocacy of Donald Trump's preferred Fox News doctor, and the blurted comments by Trump himself to conclude that the U.S. is pursuing a herd immunity strategy. Aired on 09/16/2020.
Global healthy policy expert Dr. Vin Gupta, Morgan State University professor Jason Johnson and health policy analyst Laurie Garrett speak to the dangers of the latest plan embraced by the White House to combat the coronavirus, as trials for a vaccine and antibody treatment were halted over safety concerns. Aired on 10/14/2020.
White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Scott Atlas is denying a Washington Post report that he's urging the administration to adopt a "herd immunity" strategy. Infectious diseases physician and medical doctor of the special pathogens unit at Boston Medical Center, Dr. Nahid Bhadelia joins Geoff Bennett to explain exactly what herd immunity is and why we must consider the risk of re-infection. Aired on 09/01/2020.
