Divide Over Remote Working As Many Jobs Can't Be Done From Home

Big companies like Facebook are now allowing some employees to work from home indefinitely, but that's not possible for many Americans. Law enforcement, utility workers and more are among those who have no choice but to leave home for their jobs.


Congress is still passing legislation during the coronavirus pandemic, but normal business is still very much on hold. How does this affect their work and their role in government? Rhonda Colvin reports.
The government has issued new guidelines on making workplaces safe, including observing two-metre social distancing where possible and minimising risk where it's not.

Workers in industries such as construction and manufacturing, who can't work from home, are being encouraged to go to work, although preferably not by public transport.

Many high street businesses will still not be able to open for many weeks, possibly months. Business owners say they have unanswered questions about how they might eventually re-open.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting from Business Editor Simon Jack and Emma Simpson, speaking to business owners in St Albans.
In the UK, schools remain closed to all but the children of key workers with opinion divided over when they should reopen.
For now, parents are having to juggle working from home with teaching their children. And school teachers are tackling the challenges of online education.
As millions of people are told to work from home and adjust to doing their jobs remotely, there are likely to be inconsistent desk set-ups where injuries are more likely.

Alishah Merchant, a physiotherapist at Rebalance Sports Medicine, gives some tips on how to optimise your home workstation.
