Day 1,096: Democrats And GOP Fight Over Trump Impeachment Rules

Description:

The trial's opening arguments begin Wednesday on a compressed timeline, which Democrats protested along with the decision not to automatically admit House evidence. Aired on 01/20/20.

Democratic presidential contenders Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden are fighting over big banks, again. Their disagreement started back in the early 2000s when Warren wanted to bring down the Bankruptcy Bill, while Biden sided with the big banks. Just this week, Warren renewed the fight by releasing a plan that would provide families relief from financial behemoths. Also on today's show, President Trump addressed the nation after Iran attacked military bases in Iraq Tuesday. Lastly, Hill reporter Reid Wilson chats with host Jamal Simmons about a new report showing rural cities are taking a back seat to urban areas when it comes to political power.
The two political leaders in the Senate started 2020 sparring over how the upper chamber will proceed on Trump's impeachment trial. Mieke Eoyang and Jonathan Allen react. Aired on 01/03/20.
Ethiopia has been building a new hydroelectric dam that's promising to revive its economy and bring electricity to millions of people in mostly rural areas.
But the Grand Renaissance Dam has its critics. Mainly Egypt, which says its water supply is in danger, and its people depend on that flow for consumption and farming.
In the past, the two countries have made threats about military action and so far, talks to reach some kind of deal over how to share the Nile's waters have not gone far.
So why exactly can't the two sides come to an agreement?
Start Here explains one of the most important disputes in Africa right now.
Imagine Nike without the swoosh, McDonald's with no golden arches, or Apple without the apple. Trademarks and patents can make or break a company. In the U.S. alone, intellectual property-intensive industries contribute trillions of dollars to the economy every year, and IP has become a key battleground between the world's biggest economic powers, the U.S. and China.
