About this series: Even the most powerful people in our society are at the mercy of a virus that knows no rank and no title. Though some in politics and business have risen to the occasion, and some countries, like Taiwan and South Korea have managed to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, many governments around the world have been on their heels, wasting precious time to fight the virus's spread. Meanwhile, the kinds of international collaboration that have helped the world through previous crises is virtually absent.
And so this fight is being waged in large measure by front line responders, from medical workers risking their lives to the delivery people and pharmacy employees who aren't able to stay in their homes to the coroners who are confronting wartime body counts. This series of short documentaries are dedicated to them. The great bell of Notre Dame cathedral has rung over Paris to mark one year since an inferno almost gutted the historic landmark.
