Covid-19 cases are soaring across Europe and the UK
CNN's Salma Abdelaziz and Ben Wedeman report from England and Italy as the world tops more than 50 million cases of Covid-19 and countries hit new records globally.
The novel coronavirus has infected more than 37 million people worldwide and caused more than a million deaths. In Germany, Covid-19 cases are rising rapidly, with almost all of its largest cities becoming virus hotspots. Meanwhile, England is rolling out new lockdown rules as the city of Liverpool is set to be placed under tier three lockdown restrictions, the strictest of the country's new Covid-19 rules. CGTN's Roee Ruttenberg talks to Benjamin Neuman, Professor and Chair of Biological Sciences at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, about the skyrocketing number of COVID-19 cases across the U.S. California Governor Gavin Newsom saiys the state is hitting an "emergency brake" on economic activity in light of an unprecedented spike in COVID-19 cases statewide. Several counties are now facing restrictive measure to help curb the spread of the virus. Watch some of Newsom's press conference here. COVID-19 cases are once again surging in the United States. Hospitalizations are also rising while deaths remain steady.
The current epicenter of the crisis runs along the northern US and through the Midwest. In Wisconsin an emergency field hospital has been built to handle the crush of new cases.
