Coronavirus Deaths In Utah Double Over Two Weeks


NBC News' Erin Mclaughlin reports on the sharp increase in coronavirus deaths in Utah as hospitals are in danger of running out of rooms in their ICUs.

Matt Hancock says COVID-19 deaths have "tragically doubled" in the last 12 days and the situation remains "perilous".
The U.S. Marshals Service says it found 39 missing children in Georgia over two weeks in a mission known as "Operation Not Forgotten." The agency announced in a press release that the operation led to the rescue of 26 children and the safe location of 13 others.
Epidemiologists say the number of coronavirus deaths in the U.S. could have been reduced by up to 83% if the government had enforced social distancing guidelines sooner. Stewart Patrick, the director of international and global governance for the Council on Foreign Relations, co-authored a report on how to better tackle COVID-19 and future infectious diseases. He joined CBSN's Elaine Quijano to discuss.
A graveyard in East Jakarta, designated as a burial ground for coronavirus victims, has been expanded to accommodate the rising number of deaths in the city, according to local media.

Drone footage shot, Wednesday, September 16, shows land being prepared and coffins being lowered into the ground at Pondok Ranggon cemetery.

Local reports say the government plans to expand the area to about 6,500 square meters as the number of graves required hit 30 to 40 per day, compared to 10 daily in the past.

Indonesia reported 3,635 new cases of coronavirus infections on Thursday, September 17, with 122 new deaths, data from the country's health ministry showed.
