Chad president pays tribute to soldiers killed in Boko Haram attack


Chad's president has paid tribute to 92 soldiers killed by Boko Haram fighters.
President Idriss Deby visited the scene of the latest in a series of attacks by the armed group in the Lake Chad region that covers parts of Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon.

An airstrike by Syrian government forces killed 33 Turkish soldiers in northeast Syria, a Turkish official said on Friday, marking the largest death toll for Turkey in a single day since it first intervened in Syria in 2016.

Turkey says its military has hit several Syrian government targets, killing dozens of troops in the rebel-held Idlib province in Syria.
The raids were launched in response to a Syrian government attack which killed five Turkish soldiers and three civilians.
This has put the Syrian and Turkish governments in direct confrontation for the first time and risks irking Russia, which backs Syrian forces.
Turkey has now sent more reinforcements to Idlib and is threatening further action.
