350 face justice in huge Italian mafia trial


One of the biggest mafia trials in history has kicked off in Calabria, Italy. As Chris Livesay reports, a special court had to be built just to accommodate the proceedings against hundreds of alleged members of the 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate, accused of trafficking drugs around the world.

An Italian prosecutor has told Sky News he will not be intimidated at the start of the biggest mafia trial in decades.

More than 350 people allegedly linked to the Ndrangheta crime syndicate in Calabria will face charges including murder, drug trafficking, extortion and money laundering.

#Italy's largest #mafia #trial in more than 30 years opened Wednesday involving more than 350 alleged members and associates of the feared 'Ndrangheta crime syndicate. The so-called "maxi-trial", held in a specially converted courtroom in the southern Calabrian town of Lamezia Terme, is expected to run for at least a year.
